Starting a Career in Renewable Energy
Roni Heikkinen is an electrical engineering student at Tampere University and has worked at CFE as an intern in renewable energy project development. In this interview, Roni shares what it is like to start a career in the energy sector and what he has learned during his first year in a professional expert team.
Who are you and what do you do at CFE?
My name is Roni Heikkinen and I am a bachelor’s level electrical engineering student at Tampere University. Alongside my studies, I have been working at CFE as an intern mainly in project development for about one year.
What kind of tasks have you been able to do as an intern?
As an intern, I have had the opportunity to familiarize myself with solutions and implementations in various renewable energy projects. I have assisted with document management and updated information in the company’s internal systems. In addition, I have been able to work in a guided way on leads for future projects.
What has been the biggest learning experience or development for you?
During my work, I have been able to get to know CFE’s highly skilled team and, through that, develop my understanding of the renewable energy sector and its future. CFE uses the latest technologies in its services, such as artificial intelligence, which I find very interesting and innovative. I have learned the most about how the entire project lifecycle is carried out in practice and how the related services can be continuously developed.
What works best at CFE in everyday work?
What works best in daily work at CFE is the strong team spirit and the relaxed atmosphere. These create a foundation for open discussion and encourage asking for help when needed. When the work community is motivating and supportive, learning becomes more effective and workdays feel meaningful.
In which areas would you like to develop next, and how do you see career development opportunities at CFE?
Next, I would like to develop my skills in the Technical Design of power electrical systems as my studies progress. I see career development opportunities at CFE as excellent, as the company is growing and invests strongly both in its employees and in future technologies.
What would you say to someone considering applying for a summer internship at CFE?
I would encourage anyone to apply confidently for a summer internship at CFE. It is easy to become part of the team, and every day you learn something new and useful. At the same time, you get to familiarize yourself with the energy sector and learn from experienced professionals.
